Tilly Wright's 35 Yrs. Cake

This is an old recipe found in the San Benito Historical Society, and written here just as the original...so do your modern day translations. B.P. is baking powder, by the way.

1 cup sugar
1/4 # butter (1/4 of inch off of a 1/4# butter)
(cream until very white)
Add 2 yolks to this and cream again 5 minutes more

Add 1 whole egg in this (cream thoroughly)
1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups (measure flour)
1 teaspoon B.P. (rounding)

1/2 cup sweet milk

Beat over and over in same direction. Beat until smooth as satin. Grease pan and flour. Stir again and put in 3 layers. Pretty warm oven.

Filling:
Beat 2 whites thoroughly dry Add 3 heaping teaspoons of powdered sugar. (beat well) 1 small teaspoon vanilla. 1/2 in. of butter off of the 1/4# of butter Cream well. Put chopped nuts on between the layers.
