Buttermilk Cookie Dessert with Fresh Berries

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. A little like a strawberry shortcake, but baked as cookies instead. This makes a very beautiful and interesting berry dessert. Of course, the ice cream or whipped cream is optional! You will have lots of cookies left over after making this dessert. This recipe makes about 36 cookies, so if desired you can easily cut in half if you only wish to have cookies for creating this berry dessert.

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups raw sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk (or sour milk)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose unbleached flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 cups dark unsweetened chocolate chips

1 cup fresh strawberries or raspberries, etc.
1-2 tablespoons honey or raw sugar
pinch of sea salt
ice cream or whipped cream, as desired

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In batter bowl, cream together thoroughly the soft butter, sugar and eggs. Add the buttermilk and then the remaining ingredients. Line baking pans with silicone mats or parchment paper. Drop the mixture onto the baking sheets, using a teaspoon for small cookies, or a tablespoon for large cookies. Do not flatten. Bake about 12-15 minutes, or until cookies are set and turning brown. Using a flat spatula, transfer cookies to a cooling rack. When cookies are cool, arrange one or two on individual dessert plates. Slice or dice the berries, adding honey or sugar and salt. Spread a little ice cream or whipped cream over cookies, and then some of the strawberry sauce. Serve!
