Pan Tomatoes and Grilled Steak or Burgers

3-4 firm ripe tomatoes
Slice tomatoes in half. Heat butter in skillet and place tomatoes cut side down. Saute until golden brown. Turn over, add seasonings, cover and simmer 5 - 6 minutes. Remove tomatoes to a platter along with any accumulated cooking juices. Use the same pan to grill the beef. Put the pan back on the burner and heat, adding a bit of oil if necessary. Add the seasoned beef and cook to brown nicely and then turn over, and cook to your desired doneness. Remove meat to the tomato platter, and add about 1/4 cup wine or broth or tomato juices to the hot pan. Stir to reduce the liquids about by half and pour it over the cooked meat. Garnish and serve.
