Shortbread Cookies

1 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Cream butter and sugar together. Add flour and salt, stirring until blended. Roll our to desired thickness (1/4 - 1/2 inches). Cut out with shaped cookie cutters. Place on cookie sheet and bake for 10 - 15 minutes. Serve plain or sprinkle with sugar, or colored sugars. Makes approximately 2 dozen, depending on cookie size.

These can also be pressed into and baked in small tart pans. Delicious when topped with a jam or custard.
