Icing for Frosting Cookies

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. This is a basic recipe which is so easily adjusted in flavor and consistency by the amounts and kind of liquid used. Have fun! Call it Icing or Frosting, so this recipe could be called Frosting for Icing Cookies!

2 cups sifted powdered sugar (the organic powdered sugar is great!)
2-3 tablespoons butter, softened (not melted)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or vanilla bean paste
just enough liquid (a few tablespoons) to make a smooth spreading consistency (water, lemon or orange juice, milk, rum, brandy...)

Blend powdered sugar, softened butter and vanilla in a batter bowl. Drizzle in milk, gradually, and beat until you get the correct spreading consistency, soft and creamy. Or, combine sugar, butter, vanilla in food processor with the steel chopping blade in place, adding enough of liquid to get correct consistency.
