French Toast aka Fried Bread

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at Make traditional French taost by using whole wheat or whte bread slices as desired. Make appetizer sizes by using sliced baguette and serve a numerous array of interesting toppings such as salsa, dips, butter spreads, etc. for a beautiful brunch presentation.

2 - 3 eggs
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/4 teaspoon real vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
1/2 cup milk
4-6 slices bread
1-2 tablespoons butter

In batter bowl whisk eggs with salt, vanilla, and milk. Heat griddle or skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter to hot surface. Dip bread into the mixture to coat both sides well. Place on hot griddle and brown on both sides. Serve with maple syrup, jelly, honey, and other toppings as desired.
