Big Batch of Easy Frosting

for decorating cookies, making roses, etc.

2 cups vegetable shortening
1 tbs clear vanilla extract
4-5 tbs water

2 lbs. powdered sugar
2 tbs. meringue powder (optional)
1/4 tsp. salt
a few drops of flavoring oil (optional)

Food coloring paste or gel in assorted colors.

You will also need a very sturdy mixer.

Cream the shortening together with the water and vanilla.
Sift the powdered sugar to get out any lumps and combine the meringue powder and salt.
Slowly add the powdered sugar mix to the creamed shortening with the mixer running. Blend until the mixture is light and fluffy. If the mixture is too stiff for decorating you can add an additonal tablespoon of water.
