Basic White Bread

From Dorothy McNett's Recipe Book at www.dorothymcnett.com. This is a great practice recipe, very basic and adaptable. Makes a small loaf or a nice batch of dinner rolls. Use this as your simple recipe, changing the flours from white to whole wheat, rye, or buckwheat. I like to use 2 cups of unbleached all purpose organic flour and 1 cup buckwheat flour. It makes a dark loaf, lots of flavor, and a great texture.

1 cup warm water (110-115 degrees)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 pkg)
2 1/2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
3 cups unbleached all purpose organic flour (may need about 1/4 cup or more, it all depends!)

For bread machines, place all ingredients into bread machine. Push the white bread setting. For hand kneading, combine all ingredients in bowl and then dump onto floured surface. Proceed as in "Hand Kneading Bread".
