See Also: Desserts · Sauces and Marinades Carmelized Sugar SyrupFrom Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. 1/2 cup sugar In heavy bottomed saucepan or skillet, heat sugar while stirring with a silicone spatula or spoon. The sugar will melt and then it will eventually turn golden brown. Slowly and carefully pour in the hot water. Careful, as it will splash and gurgle, just keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool. Use this as a syrup for desserts, or use as a sweetener for anything you want to have a caramel taste. It is even good added to a hot barbecue sauce when a sweetener is needed.
