Poached Pears with Ginger Snaps

3-4 firm, but ripe, pears, peeled and cut
1/2 cup black currant syrup, or maple syrup, or plain sugar syrup
freshly grated nutmeg
zest of 1 lemon plus a little of the juice
gingersnaps or other crispy cookie, to serve with it

Peel and slice the pears, removing the cores. Place in a glass or ceramic bowl, add the syrup, nutmeg, and lemon zest plus about 1 teaspoon of the juice. Cover with a glass or ceramic plate. Microwave on high, using 2 minutes per pear as a guide. Pears should be tender but firm when done. Serve in a beautiful footed glass along with the cookies on the side.
