Berry Sauce

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Use blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and combinations of fresh berries. Serve with Pound Cake, etc. And by simply adding some freshly ground pepper it can be a drizzling sauce for brie or other soft cheeses.

2 cups fresh berries
1-2 tablespoons sugar or honey
1 tablespoon cassis, optional
1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional
1/2 teaspoon or more freshly ground pepper

Gently mash half of the berries with the honey or sugar just to start them to juice up a little. Stir in rest of berries, cassis and juice. Let stand about 20-30 minutes. Great served with cakes, cheesecakes, ice cream or coeur ala creme, with or without the pepper!
