Toffee Bars

From Dorothy McNett's Recipe Book at This recipe is from Sue Qualset, a housemate when we were teachers in Merced.

Beat together
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 egg yolks

1 cup oatmeal
1 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Press into 9 by 13 inch pan, greased, and bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool 10 minutes. Then frost with 6 Hershey bars melted with 2 tablespoons butter. Set in refrigerator until set before cutting.
