Plum Pudding Sauce

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at This is a favorite from my Aunt Louise Childs. This is wonderful poured over any steamed pudding, such as Persimmon Pudding.

3 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 cup boiling water

Combine all ingredients in saucepan and cook gently for a few minutes to dissolve the sugar. Allow to stand about 10 minutes or more before serving. Serve on steamed "suet" puddings or on fruit with pound cake.
