Rye Bread, Applesauce, and Cheese
From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. This is a great appetizer or snack, just using whatever cheeses you have on hand. Sometimes we forget about using rye bread as an appetizer base. You decide if you want to make the applesauce a bit spicey by adding some horseradish. I usually use the bottled prepared horseradish, but a bit of powdered Japanese wasabi powder will work also.
freshly made applesauce (see recipe)
Blend in about 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish per 1 cup of applesauce. Spread applesauce generously over each bread slice. Arrange cheese and herbs. Serve! Or, first spread creamy cheese on the slices and then dollop with some applesauce, garnish and serve.
