Blue Cheese Bread Strips

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Serve with a sandwich filling topping, or simply dice up some very fresh red ripe tomatoes and place on top.

2 whole wheat hot dog buns
1/4 cup unsalted butter
3-4 tablespoons good quality blue cheese (Buttermilk Blue, etc...)

toppings as desired

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. With serrated bread knife, slice each bun lengthwise into fourths to make strips. Arrange on a baking sheet with the cut sides up. Melt the butter and cheese together, stir well to blend. (Takes about 45 seconds in microwave, 1-2 minutes in a saucepan.) Using a pastry brush, spread the mixture evenly over the cut sides of each bread strip. Bake about 10 minutes. Cool slightly and serve, or cool completely and then spread with desired sandwich fillings.
