Asian Pears with Jujubes (aka Chinese Red Dates)

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. If you don't have jujubes, use whole pitted dried dates instead. One pear could serve 2 people, but if the pears are small plan on 1 pear per person.

2-3 Asian pears
2 teaspoons honey per pear
1 - 2 jujubes or dates per pear
2 tablespoons apple juice, or wine

Wash the pears, and slice off the top about 1/2 inch down or so, as this will be the lid. Using a corer, remove the core but do not cut through the bottom of the pear. Tuck in a jujube or date into each cavity and drizzle with 2 teaspoons of honey per pear. Place in a glass or ceramic bowl, and pour the juice or wine into the bottom. Cover with a glass or ceramic plate, or a piece of waxed paper. Cook in microwave, using 3 minutes per pear as a guide. Pears will hold their shape and be tender when done. Allow to cool before serving, or they can be served warm, adding a little more honey if desired.
