Herbed Steamed Fresh Peas or Fresh Asparagus

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Use all peas or all asparagus, or a combo!

5-6 large lettuce leaves, moistened
1 pound shelled fresh peas (or leave in the shell) or asparagus
4-5 green onions, sliced
1/2 teaspoon raw sugar, or honey
pinch of sea salt
a few grindings of fresh pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, or a few sprigs of fresh
1/2 teaspoon oregano
2-3 sprigs fresh parsley
a few drops of extra virgin olive oil

Cover the bottom of a 9-10 inch heavy bottomed skillet with the damp lettuce leaves. Arrange the peas and onions over the leaves, and then sprinkle with all of the remaining ingredients. Cover. Place on burner and heat for about 1 minute, then reduce to medium and cook about 5 minutes, just enough to steam the peas and onions a bit and to develop the flavors. Serve, and you get to decide if you want to eat the lettuce leaves or not, I like them but of course they will be wilted.
