Asparagus with Avocado and Basil

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. For a Valentine's dinner, this vegetable dish combines 2 known aphrodisiac vegetables, along with sensual basil. It is stated that the aroma of basil is very stimulating and sure to get your heart racing! Nicholas Culpepper in the 17th century stated "asparagus stirs up lust in man and woman". And, the Aztecs called the avocado tree the "testicle tree" from seeing pairs of avocados hanging together, whereas Catholic priests in Spain forbade the avocado, so it has been written! So, enjoy your food!!!

5-6 fresh asparagus spears
1 avocado
1-2 teaspoons mayonnaise, or other sauce as desired
freshly snipped basil
salt and pepper, as desired

Wash and trim asparagus spears. Place them in a glass or ceramic baking dish (a glass loaf pan is great). Cover with a few lettuce leaves, or a piece of waxed paper. Cook in microwave for 2 minutes. (if they are really thick spears, use 3 minutes) In meantime, mash the avocado and stir in the mayonnaise and snipped basil. Place the cooked asparagus on salad plates and arrange the creamed avocado over and around, sprinkling with salt and pepper as desired.
