Chinese Five Spice Powder is readily available in the spice section of grocery stores. It is a blend of cinnamon, star anise, fennel, ginger, and cloves. 3 tablespoons unsalted butter Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner and set aside. In heavy bottomed saucepan combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, salt, spices and pepper. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce to simmer, cook and stir 1-2 minutes to dissolve the sugar. Add the peanuts, cook and stir over medium heat 3 - 4 minutes, or until nicely browned and peanuts are coated. Quickly dump onto prepared baking sheet, spread out as much as possible, and allow to cool. You may want to sprinkle on a bit more salt as they cool, if desired.
