Popover Casserole with Crab

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Don't have a popover pan for individual popovers? Make this wonderful breakfast or brunch casserole instead!

1/4 cup unsalted butter
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/2 cups all purpose unbleached flour

1 1/2 - 2 cups cooked crab meat pieces
2-3 green onions, thinly sliced
2-3 cloves garlic, finely minced
1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
paprika
2-3 tablespoons freshly grated Parmigiano cheese

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place the butter in a 9 by 13 inch baking dish and put it into the oven to heat the dish and melt the butter. In meantime, in batter bowl whisk the eggs with the milk and salt. Whisk in the flour and continue to whisk until the batter is smooth and no lumps remain. Remove the hot baking dish from the oven and swirl the butter to coat evenly. Quickly pour batter into the dish and bake for 15 minutes, and then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake another 15 minutes more. While it is baking, mix together the crab meat, onion, garlic and mascarpone. When the popover has baked for the final 15 minutes, remove from oven and quickly spoon the crab filling over the bottom without disturbing the nice puffy sides. Sprinkle with paprika and parmesan and bake about 8 - 10 minutes. Serve!
