Coney Islands

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Great hot dogs with a classic name and touch! Make just half of the recipe and serve with grilled hot dogs cut into small pieces on top of breads, buns, etc. as an appetizer.

1/2 pound ground beef
1 shallot or small onion (about 1/3 cup chopped)
1 small rib celery, chopped
1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
2 tablespoons raw sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon chili powder, or more if desired
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
8 hot dogs
8 buns

In saute pan, cook the ground beef, onion and celery a few minutes. Add the tomato sauce, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, mustard and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer and cook several minutes to blend flavors and to thicken up a bit. Grill or fry the hot dogs and place on the buns. Drizzle/pour on the sauce and serve.
