Herbed Wild Rice

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. I love cooking rice in microwave, however this herbed wild rice works better more slowly cooked in a saucepan.

1/2 cup unsalted butter or extra virgin olive oil
1 shallot, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 cup wild rice
3 cups broth or water
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/2 teaspoon sea salt

In a 3 quart saucepan that has a lid, first heat the butter or oil and then add the chopped shallot, garlic and rice. Saute, stirring, for 4 - 5 minutes and then add the broth or water, herbs and salt. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce to a slow simmer and cook for about 40 or even up to 50 minutes or until the rice is tender and fluffy. Serve!
