Dutch Frikandel

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Serve with french fries with mayo and lots of curry ketchup.

1 pound ground pork
1/2 cup finely minced onion
1 clove finely minced garlic
2 mashed potatoes
1 egg
1/2 - 1 teaspoon ground pepper
1/2 - 1 teaspoon salt
1/2 - 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
oil for frying
curry ketchup,for serving
diced onions, for serving

Mix pork with onion, garlic, mashed potatoes, egg,pepper, salt and nutmeg together and shape into long rolls like a hotdog. If you are going to deep-fry them, heat enough oil in a heavy bottomed pan to have them submerged. You can also saute them in a pan with enough oil to cover the bottom. Either way, cook until nicely browned and done throughout. To serve, place them on a plate and surround with french fries. Slice the frikandel lengthwise but not all the way through but just so it opens up and then slather with curry ketchup and diced onions.
