Spiced Baby Shrimp

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. Use on bread slices as an appetizer or spread over a wedge of softened cream cheese!

1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
zest of lemon plus 2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons wine vinegar, or apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons raw sugar
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 pound cooked baby shrimp

8 oz. package cream cheese or neufchatel cheese, or brie

In saucepan heat the oil and then add the chopped onion, garlic, parsley, chives, lemon zest and juice, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper and spices. Bring to a boil, cook 3 - 4 minutes to dissolve the sugar and to soften the onions, etc. Add the baby shrimp. Set aside to cool a bit. Arrange the cream cheese on a plate or platter and then cover with the shrimp sauce. Serve with bread or crackers.
