Monterey Jack Cheese on San Francisco Sourdough Bread

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. San Francisco sourdough bread was one of my first "California" experiences way back in 1963. I loved it with the chowders and the Crab Salad. But my uncle Carl Klink, a farmer from Iowa, also tried it while in the city with me and the first thing he said about it was "If I could only make bread that tasted like this, I would stay at home!"

slices of sourdough bread
slices of Monterey Jack cheese

Preheat broiler. Slice the bread and arrange on a baking sheet. Place a slice of cheese (about the same size as the bread slice) on each and place under broiler just until cheese is melted and starting to brown just a bit. Do not let it burn! Serve!
