Sliders with an Italian Accent

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at Here is a basic slidders recipe that will serve 6 people or more, depending on how hungry everyone is! Feel free to substitute any cooked chicken, meats, other cheeses, etc. as desired. This is the basic plan for making "slidders", baked in the oven. You can easily cut the recipe in half, using a smaller baking dish that will hold the buns side by side.

1 package ready made dinner rolls (pkg. of 12)
3/4 cup tomato sauce, or a salsa or pizza sauce, etc.
12 thin slices of mozzarella cheese, or other "softish" cheeses as desired
12 or more slices of pepperoni or other thinly sliced salami, etc.
1/2 cup or so of any cooked and crumbled sausage, etc.
1/4 cup grated Parmesan, or use more thinly sliced mozzarella or jack cheese, etc.

1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 - 3 cloves garlic, very minely minced
pinches of dried herbs such as oregano, basil, etc., or snipped fresh ones

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Use a 9 by 13 inch baking dish, or other size that will hold the dinner rolls in a single layer. With your bread knife, cut the rolls in half and place the bottom halves side by side in the baking dish. Evenly distribuite the tomato sauce over them and then cover it with the the chese slices. Layer with the pepperoni and sprinkle with the cooked and crumbled sausage or diced cooked chicken, or whatever you are using! Sprinkle liberally with the grated Parmesan. Place the tops of the buns on each one. In a glass measuring cup heat the butter with the minced garlic in microwave 1 minute. Stir in the herbs and brush the butter gently over the tops. Bake 12 - 15 minutes. Serve!
