Sea Salt Chocolate Caramels

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at Also known as Chocolate Mecca in Seattle and probably this candy originated in and around there. And then became very popular here in California! Eat and Enjoy!!

12 or so caramel candy pieces
3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
pinches of semi-coarse sea salt

Choose some ready made caramels or make your own if desired. Put the chocolate chips in a glass measuring cup and melt in microwave for 1 minute and stir to finish the melting, adding 30 seconds or more as needed. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, waxed paper, or a baking mat. Using a spoon, dip a caramel into the chocolate and place on the sheet. Repeat with the rest of them and then sprinkle on some sea salt and set aside to cool, which may take 2 - 3 hours or so at room temperature.
