A grand appetizer or side dish or sandwich spread as made and presented by my friend Sandra Burnham for a great New Year's Eve dinner! 1 can beans, such as great northwestern, etc. Drain the beans and then mash them and arrange them in an au gratin dish or a small pie pan, or any suitable dish that can handle the heat of the broiler. Spread the softened cream cheese over the mashed beans and then sprinkle liberally with the shredded cheese. Arrange the oven rack about 4 - 6 inches below the broiler. Preheat the broiler and then place the pan/dish on the rack and broil for about 4 - 6 minutes or more, until the top is nicely browned and heated through. It depends so much on your broiler, the pan, etc. so watch carefully. Serve hot, warm, or cold with plenty of goodies for spreading it on, etc. Recipe created 2018-01-01. © 1996-2013 Dorothy McNett.
