Anise Poached Pears

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com.

1/2 cup raw sugar
3/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon anise seeds, crushed
zest and 1 - 2 teaspoons lemon juice
dash of sea salt
3 - 4 firm ripe pears
orange and grapefruit slices for serving

Combine sugar and water in glass or ceramic batter bowl. Heat in microwave 2 minutes. Stir to dissolve the sugar, adding 1 more minute if necessary. Add anise seeds, zest of the lemon and the juice, salt and the pears. Cook in microwave for 6-8 minutes, or until the pears are tender, rolling them around in the syrup to coat them. Allow to cool and serve with orange and grapefruit slices, if desired, for a refreshing and light dessert.
