Lettuce with Ranch Dressing
From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com. It seems that ranch cowboys were never known for their love of fresh greens. So probably some clever cookie invented a version of a sensational dressing made with homemade style mayonnaise and buttermilk and lots of seasonings. Make your own mayo or use a good quality ready made one.
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup minced celery with leaves
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon grated onion
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
a big bowlful of crisp salad greens
Combine the salad dressing ingredients. Pour over the greens just at serving time.
