Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage

4 tablespoons butter
1 onion, thinly sliced
6 whole cloves
6 juniper berries
1/4 - 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 pound head red cabbage, shredded
2 tablespoons sorghum or molasses
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in a large 3 quart casserole or simmer pot. Cover. Microwave on high for 10 minutes, then on half power for 30-40 minutes, or until tender. Serve hot with turkey, or with German sausages or American burgers and fries. This can be made days in advance, and then reheated. It is very good just at room temperature.
