Fragrant Five Spice Pork

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at Serve just the way it is, or with cooked pasta, rice, etc A great flavor combination for anytime of the year, but is especially warm and welcoming with holiday dinners, etc.

1/2 - 3/4 pound lean pork, such as tenderloin
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons dry sherry or other wines or broth as desired
1 teaspoon raw sugar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 - 3/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
1 teaspoon cornstarch

4 - 6 fresh asparagus spears
3 tablespoons safflower or grapeseed oil

Cut pork into strips. In a medium bowl, toss pork strips with soy sauce, sherry, sugar, salt, five-spice powder, and cornstarch. Let stand 10 minutes. In a wok or sauté pan, heat oil over high heat until very hot. Add pork and stir and fry until just barely done, about 3 minutes. Cut asparagus spears into about 2 inch pieces. Add them to the pork mixture, cooking and stirring 1-2 minutes, adding a bit more oil or soy sauce if needed.
