Tomato Basil Dip or Sauce

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at Great as a dip for all veggies and bread sticks, or poured over some soft cheese. Also great for a sandwich and sliders sauce.

3 - 4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 oz. package dried tomatoes, crumbled
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped, or 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, crumbled
1-2 tablespoons white wine, optional

Sauté garlic in olive oil but do not brown. Turn heat down. Add tomatoes, water, basil, and wine. Cover and steam 3-4 minutes. Place in heat proof bowl and use as a dip. Also wonderful poured over a small wedge of soft Brie. Serve with bread slices and slivered vegetables. Also wonderful with grilled artichokes and cheeses, etc.
