Warm Scallop Dip

From Dorothy McNett's recipes at www.dorothymcnett.com.

1/2 pound small scallops
1/2 cup shredded Emmenthal or Gouda cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 garlic clove
grated zest of 1 lemon

Preheat broiler. Coarsely chop the scallops, if using large ones. In medium bowl, combine all ingredients. Spread mixture into a gratin or other shallow pan, making sure that it is no more than 1/2 inch thick to ensure even cooking. Broil for about 5 minutes, until scallops are cooked and the dip is golden brown and bubbling. Serve at once with slices of bread, crackers, or spread on crisp tiny toasts.
