Pilaf with Mushrooms

1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup real butter
3 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
1/4 teaspoon each crumbled marjoram and thyme
1 cup long grain white rice
1 1/2 cups homemade or other good quality chicken broth or vegetable stock
1/2 cup dry white wine or water
1 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano or Romano cheese

In a 3 quart casserole with a lid, combine onion, garlic, and butter. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Mix in parsley, marjoram, thyme, rice, broth, and wine or water. Cover. Microwave on high for 5 minutes, then on half power for 15 minutes. Allow to stand, covered, for several minutes. In meantime, combine mushrooms and lemon juice in another bowl and microwave, covered, for 3-4 minutes. Add to rice, fluff and serve with the cheese.
