As a child growing up in Iowa, this is similiar to my Mom's recipe and it was always served with sour cream, and a dollop of horseradish! 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil Heat the oil in a Dutch oven or other heavy bottomed pan. Dredge the meat with the flour, salt, and pepper. Brown the meat in the hot oil, and then add the chopped vegetables. Cook and stir a few minutes, and then add the remaining ingredients. Reduce the heat to simmer and allow to gently cook for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, or until the flavors have blended. Taste, adding more salt or pepper as desired. Serve with hot noodles and freshly baked bread. If desired, dollop on some sour cream and horseradish at serving time. Recipe created 1996-10-29. © 1996-2013 Dorothy McNett. All Rights Reserved. |
